UFO (Game Audio Module)
A downloadable game for Windows
A cross discipline project developed for our Games Audio Module consisting of two Games Technology students which were myself and my friend James Bland alongside two sound engineering students Dylan and Ollie. Without their expertise in music and sound creation we wouldn't have gotten such a stellar grade.
You can find attached to this page an executable of the game itself so you can experience our wonderful sounds along with a powerpoint that we put together and presented as a group as a week by week account of what we all did. Alternatively you can watch the sort gameplay video provided on this page as well.
Final Grade for Project: 85%
The module asked us to implement our own sounds within an existing project one of us had created in a previous years module. These sounds would have to be added logically within the space and fit within the games environment and would have to be passed into the project through the use of FMOD. The game we chose was James Bland's UFO project he created as an educational collectathon for the collaborative practice module to teach children about the human body. However, in order to implement a more diverse and comical set of sounds James and I helped add in some new mechanics in order to create those opportunities for sound creation. My particular contributions will be listed after a discussion of the group setup.
Group Setup
With our group dynamics set with two games and two audio students we created a GitHub so that we could all collab on the same project at once. To keep track of our sounds our audio members made an excel spreadsheet to act as our spotting sheet so we could track each soundbite from recording, to editing then finally implementation. I've included this spreadsheet in the files attached to this page for you to browse beyond this screenshot.

Personal Contributions To The Project
I feel it important to highlight the things I in particular added to this project:
On the FMOD side of things;
-Recording of the PA Lady dialogue done my myself for out new doctors PA system you can see in the gameplay video. (Also all individual audio assets can be found in the files attached alongside an executable)
- Utilisation of nested events in FMOD to create the global PA system

- Within Reaper I created a static audio sound effect for when the player breaks the PAs around the map. (seen best in the video or by playing yourself)
- Distorted the PA jingle for when the player is in the vicinity of a broken PA
- Creation of minor events such as sinks filling, toilets flushing etc
As for Unity Implementation;
- I created the actual PA's dotted around the map and gave them the ability to be broken
- Implemented all the collision sounds
- Synced up the sounds for the minor events to match the visual (e.g. the sink finishes flushing when the water fills back up, shutters stop creaking when the door stops moving)
- Took the footsteps event from FMOD and made it so depending on the floor the footsteps change sound effects (e.g, tiles echo slightly and the sand on the beach sounds squishy)
- Added in the dialogue for when a player picks up a bone and it plays a funny dialogue line
How To Play
Simply download the executable on this page and enjoy to your hearts content. Basic controls such as WASD for movement, mouse for looking around, and E to interact with various objects. Can you unlock the secret room
